Impact of climate change on crop productivity at selected locations of Karnataka: application of principal component analysis in regression.

The yearly data on climatic factors from 1982-2010 were collected from the Agrometeorology Division at UAS, GKVK and analyzed to study the impact of climate change on crop productivity of groundnut at Hiriyur and ragi at Chintamani locations of Karnataka. The Principal Component Analysis (PCA) in regression was used for the purpose. The model was found to be significant for both crops with the R2 value 54.10 and 36.60 per cent for groundnut and ragi, respectively. It was evident from the finding that the expected mean yield for groundnut at Hiriyur was 866 to 969 kg/ha with 12 per cent variability in productivity for a given varying interval of climatic factors under study. Similarly expected mean yield for ragi at Chintamani was 1186 to 13 83 kg/ha with 14 per cent variability in productivity under the changing scenario.
