Extent of Loans issued by the Commercial Banks under AC and ABCs Scheme in South India

The main objectives of the study were to assess the state contributing highest for establishing the AC and ABCs, to understand mostly which project has been taken up by the agripreneurs and to study the extent of concentration of banks in terms of their investment on this scheme in the respective states. The data on state-wise, bank-wise and activity-wise progress of loan disbursement up-to the end of March 2006 were collected from regional offices of NABARD in the respective states. The results of analysis showed that, Karnataka was found to be highest in both number of units financed (203 units) and amount of loan disbursed (Rs. 1318.66 lakh). Canara Bank was found to be highest in number of units financed (44 units) followed by Vijaya Bank (36 units) and State Bank of India (29 units). The highest amount of loan was disbursed to AC and ABC activity (Rs. 492.81 lakh) followed by Rs. 197.85 lakh for agriclinics and Rs. 154.3 lakh for vermicomposting activity.
