Influence of Screen Size of Air Screen Cleaner on Seed Recovery and Quality in Sunflower (Helianthus annus L.)

Among many factors,which influence on seed recovery proper selection of screen size of air screen seed cleaner is an important one. Hence, the study was taken up on two sunflower hybrids KBSH-1 and DSH-1 using four sieve sizes viz., 2.80 ,2.60 , 2.50and 2.40 mm to know the relationship between screen size fractions on seed recovery and other quality parameters. The graded four size fractions and ungraded bulk used as control were tested for its quality in terms of germination and vigour. Siognificant differences were observed in respect of seed recovery, cleaning efficiency, screen effectiveness due to size grading. Seeds retained on 2.80 and 2.60 mm sieve showed high seed recoery with higher seedling vigour and other quality parameters when compared to other grades without affecting the minimum seed certification standards of germination (70%) and physical purity (98%).
