Rheumatoid arthritis: circadian and circannual rhythms in RA.

Alternating sunlight and darkness, and their seasonal cycle, regulate circadian and circan-nual biological rhythms. These rhythms are known to influence the pathophysiology of, and clinical symptoms in, rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Although the extent of such influence is not entirely clear, new data are emerging. Reporting the results of a multi-center study in 736 patients with early signs of arthritis, in Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, Mouterde et al. now show that, intriguingly, the season of first symptoms might influence short-term outcomes in early arthritis.
