Patricia Marck and colleagues offer a pragmatic way to look at quality and safety using photographs to identify safety issues and initiate discussions. Their study found major patient safety themes related to clutter, infection control, unit design, chemicals and air quality, lack of storage space, and health and safety hazards (including wet floors, tripping hazards from hoses, moving furniture/ chairs).
