Can a 1 -h peritoneal equilibration test accurately assess free water transport in peritoneal dialysis patients?

Impaired free water transport has been implicated in loss of ultrafiltration across the peritoneal membrane. The techniques currently used to measure free water transport in peritoneal dialysis patients can be time-consuming. OBJECTIVES To ascertain whether a 'mini' 1-h peritoneal equilibration test (pet) can provide an estimate of free water transport across the peritoneal membrane, and to compare estimates of ultrafiltration and small-solute transport provided by the 1 -h test with those from a 4-h test.
