Can intensive statin therapy cause regression of coronary atherosclerosis?

To date, trials studying the effect of statin therapy on atherosclerosis have found no evidence of atherosclerotic regression. With the use of more-aggressive lipid-lowering therapy and intravascular ultrasonography (IVUS), Nissen et al. sought to reinvestigate the effect of statins on coronary atherosclerosis. OBJECTIVE To determine whether intensive statin therapy can cause the regression of coronary atherosclerosis.
