Private Action in New Jersey s Skylands

An hour's drive west of Manhattan lie swaths of forests and farm fields, rugged cliffs and wetlands. This region, known as the SKYLANDS (RIGHT), harbors more than half of the Northeast's remaining populations of bog turtles and northern metalmark butterflies. Its expanses of unbroken forest are home to neotropical songbirds, bobcats and black bears. Yet threats to these Skylands rarities loom. Rampant development encroaches, while invasive species destroy habitat and threaten forest health.
