The series of articles in the New York Times in late June questioning US shale gas abundance were symptomatic of how bipolar some of the debate around natural gas can get. The same guys who had long been bemoaning the rapid pace of development suddenly appeared to think we could not develop fast enough. The same guys who were appalled when natural gas prices went to double digits accused the industiy of an Enron-style Ponzi scheme for selling gas at prices that might be too low for sustained development.
