Monitoring senescence and early tumorigenesis in mouse models, and understanding how these processes are linked, is challenging. Norman Sharpless and colleagues have developed a knock-in mouse that expresses luciferase at the locus encoding the senescence promoter and tumour suppressor IIMK4A (also known as p16~(INK4A)) that seems to act as a reporter of early tumorigenesis.
