Cross-border biosphere reserves: new approaches in the co-operation between Vosges du Nord and Pfalzerwald

This paper describes some of the experience gained since 1985 in developing co-operation between two contiguous protected areas and biosphere reserves situated at the border between northeastern France and southwestern Germany, Vosges du Nord and Pfalzerwald. Some of the considerations, approaches and tools that have proven useful in promoting co-operation in this particular field situation have been summarized, with a view to providing insights that might be helpful to other protected area managers in developing cross-border cooperation.
