Tumour suppressors: Selective justice.

The multi-talented 'guardian of the genome' p53 is fundamental for preventing tumour development. This was exemplified 3 years ago by three publications showing that the restoration of p53 function to p53-null tumours resulted in complete tumour regression in some animals. However, nothing in tumour biology is ever that simple and two papers published in Nature now show that restoring p53 function in mouse models of lung cancer affects only the most aggressive lesions.
