This paper demonstrates the usefulness of pulsed laser ablation in liquids as a fast screeningsynthesis method able to prepare even complex compositions at the nanoscale. Nanoparticles ofY_2O_3:Eu~(3+), Lu_2O_2S:Eu~(3+),Gd_2SiO_5:Ce~(3+), Lu_3TaO_7:Gd~(3+)and Tb~(3+)are successfullysynthesized by pulsed laser ablation in liquids. The phase and stoichiometries of the originalmaterials are preserved while the sizes are reduced down to 5-10 nm. The optical properties ofthe materials are also preserved but show some small variations and some additional structureswhich are attributed to the specificities of the nanoscale (internal pressure, inhomogeneousbroadening, surface states, etc).
