The kinetics of formation of gold nanoparticles in chitosan solutions doped with HAuCl_4 under the UV-induced reduction of Au~(3+) and their dimensional features and aggregative stability are studied via optical spectroscopy, small-angle X-ray scattering, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The nanoparticles are spherical in shape and are characterized by a narrow size distribution. The electron microscopy and small-angle radiography data are quantitatively almost identical. A linear correlation between the average size of Au nanoparticles and the position of their plasmon absorption maximum is found. A high aggregative stability of nanoparticles in chitosan solutions is revealed.
