Nanoparticles pave way for hydrogen revolution

Hydrogen, which can be produced by the electrochemical reduction of water, provides a clean alternative to conventional fuels. But the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) requires a catalyst such as the noble metal Pt, which is expensive and scarce. To achieve any widespread rollout of a hydrogen economy, low-cost alternative catalyst materials are both economically and technologically essential.
