The paper discusses real-time estimation of the telephone channel characteristics in the voice band. A fast-speed digital signal processor that is based on the TMS320C25, is assembled and implemented to synthesis complex waveforms. The synthesized waveforms are sent through a telephone-channel simulator mat allows different types of group delays and attenuations. The transformation and sample manipulation properties of the digital signal are then exploited to estimate channel noise in real-time with the aim of minimising its effect. Several experiments are performed for testing and the accuracy is evaluated. The individually synthesized sinusoidal waveforms are found to be the most accurate in comparison with the spread waveforms or unit impulse.
