Assocham urges govt to cut NMDC iron ore prices by 25%

Apex industry body Assocham has urged thegovernment to reduce iron ore prices by about25% to help domestic steel industry become competitive."Asian economies like China, Japan andKorea have become more competitive and areexporting steel to India at throwaway prices dueto drop in Platts iron ore index thereby creatinghuge problem in India and posing threat tosurvival and sustainability of domestic steelindustry," noted the Associated Chambers ofCommerce and Industry of India (Assocham) ina communication addressed to Union Steel andMines Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.
