Romulea bocchierii Frignani & liriti (Iridaceae), a new species from Sardinia (Italy)

Romulea bocchierii Frignani & Iiriti, a new species fromSardinia (Italy), is described. Its taxonomic relationships withA the close species Romulea ligustica Parl. and Romulearequienii Parl. are presented. An analytical identification keyand a distribution map are given. This new species has beenfound in a humid meadow in the Codoleddu upland, a fewkilometres from Cagliari. It appears to be endemic to SESardinia and is related to Romulea bulbocodium (L.) Sebast.& Mauri only present in the NE part of the island. The recog-nition of Romulea bocchierii is claimed on the basis of ana-tomical, morphological, ecological and phytogeographicaldata. Because some other endemic species of the genusRomulea Maratti are known for Sardinia, the finding of thisnew taxon is important to understand the systematic and phy-togeography of this genus in Italy.
