A New High-Yielding Bi-colored Gerbera Cut Flower Cultivar, 'Sunny

A new bi-colour gerbera (Gerbera hybrida Hort.) cultivar "Sunny" was developed from a cross "Princessa" and 'Tam-ara" followed by seedling and line selections at' the Flower Breeding Research Institute, Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services (ARES) in 1999. Characteristics trials were conducted for three times from 2001 to 2003. Newly bred "Sunny" showed bi-color (RHS. 48-B/13-B), Green center, semi-double type, and large flower. It also was in good harmony in ray floret color and flower center color with stable flower shape. The vase life was 10.2 days. The average yield of "Sunny" was 48.2 flowers per plant per year in the greenhouse yield trials carried out from 2001 to 2003. This cultivar was registered as commercialization in 2003. "Sunny" would be cultured under greenhouse condition in Korea.
