30 per cent boost to bottom line

Pasture is the cornerstone of dairy success and now the industry is seeking to exceed its own expectation by a staggering 30 per cent in the hunt for better returns using existing landholdings and production systems. Dairy Australia Feed2Milk programleader Steve Little says within the Australian dairy industry, many of the top pasture and grazing managers may be at, or very close to, the upper limit of dry matter (DM) consumption rates from the perennial ryegrass pastures. He said this begs the question: are there further gains to be made by searching for new ways to improve the DM harvest? And more importantly, would these improvements improve the profitability of the business?
