Rice breeding for brown planthopper (BPH) resistance is often a slow and laborious process in case of japonica rice. Marker assisted selection (MAS) would improve the efficiency of plant breeding through precise transfer of interesting target traits.In order to reconfirm the efficiency of the RM28493, we tested the marker in DH population derived a cross SNBC61 and Junambyeo. the marker allele of RM28493 were co-segregated with BPH bioassay data. To get the allelic information of RM28493 for MAS tobrown planthopper resistance, 118 varieties were tested. The RM28493 divided as one resistance specific allele and three susceptible type alleles. Eighteen varieties containing the Bphl showed the resistant-type allele and 100 susceptible varieties weresusceptible-type allele to the marker of RM28493. To get a gene pyramiding information, we compared the marker allele of RM28493 in various BPH resistance resource, The RM28493 showed a different allele between Bphl resources and Bph3, bph4 resource, indicating that the RM28493 can be used as specific marker for detecting Bphl gene in selection of gene pyramiding lines such as Bphl and Bph3, Bphl and bph4. Thereby, the RM28493 can be used to select resistant genotype of the Bphl in MAS breeding programsof rice.
