Haryeong, a new potato cultivar, was bred at the National Institute of Highland Agriculture in Korea Republic. It was finally selected from the population derived from the cross between Atlantic as the female and Superior as the male parent in 1996. It has round, smooth, light yellow-skinned tubers with high dry matter content. It showed high resistance to late blight (Phytophthora infestans) and Potato leaf roll virus and a moderate resistance to Potato virus Y and common scab. According to the results of organic farming field evaluations with non-chemical treatment in 2005, it also showed very low late blight infection rates of 2.3% and an AUDPC of 75.5. Its mean tuber yield was 77% higher than that of Superior. Its mean tuber yield from regional yield trials conducted at 5 locations during 3 years was 40 t/ha and 6% higher than that of Superior. Its mean dry matter content at all locations was also higher than that of Superior. The texture of steamed potatoes is very mealy and has a good culinary taste..
