摘要

Central and southern cattle producers are urged to be on guard for outbreaks of three-day sickness with the recent heavy rains threatening to see the disease break its usual northern-Australia boundaries. Three-day sickness is a viral disease of cattle and buffalo, with affected animals normally recovering after three days. The relatively few cattle that do not recover either die or need to be euthanased. The disease is spread by the mosquito Culex annulirostris and biting midges. Three-day sicknessusually occurs during the warmer months of December-April, with cases during the winter and spring months rarely occurring.
