Producers who focus on breeding for increased clean fleece weight in their ewes may need to consider the effects on body condition during pregnancy and lactation according to University of Western Australia (UWA) final-year honours student, Taya Clark. Recent winner of the Young Professionals in Agriculture Forum, Taya Clark, investigated the link between increased clean fleece weight and ewe body condition as part of her honours thesis. Taya's findings are consistent with the theory that there is anegative genetic correlation between high clean fleece weight and fat depth, suggesting that sheep selected for high clean fleece weight have less fat and more lean.
