Pipes and tanks are - subject to material used, environmental conditions and the media to be conveyed or stored - more or less heavily exposed to the effects of corrosion. Far more dangerous than the exterior visible effects of corrosion are those occurring on the inside walls, which cannot generally be detected by visual inspection. Ultrasonic residual wall thickness measurements taken at frequencies of between 1 and 10 MHz offer a fast and reliable method of taking measurements for safety surveillance in respect of industrial plants.
