MICHELIN TYRE TECH: Smarter materials and design make new all-weather Super Sports as quick as beloved Cup R-specs

It's fair to say MOTOR holds Michelin's Pilot Sport Cup/Cup+ rubber in high esteem. They're factory-fitted to Porsche's current GT2 and GT3 variants, our current outright lap record holders at Winton (GT2) and Phillip Island (GT3 RS). That the latter makes do with a non-turbo 3.8-litre six - albeit a bloody good 'un - proves the road-legal R-spec rubber contributes significantly to its performance. Technically and tangibly, the Cups are brilliant. But they require heat to perform at their best, and they have, by normal standards, a pretty limited life expectancy. And in the wet, as many Hot Tuner competitors discovered this (rainy) year, they're frankly hopeless.
