TURBO TECHNOLOGY is about to transform the character of Germany's biggest-hitting performance saloons Next year's F10 BMW M5 is set to run a twin-turbo V8 and now Mercedes AMG is following suit by replacing the charismatic naturally-aspirated 386kW 6.2-litre V8 currently powering the '63' editions of the E-class, S-class and CLS with an all-new twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8. The so-called M 157 powerplant, which has direct injection, an aluminum crankcase, two Garrett turbochargers and weighs just 204kg, makes its European debut in the S-class mid-year before being introduced to the rest of the V8-powered range, as both a 5 5 and 4 6, over the next two years.
