Considered by some as a neoplasm, by others as hyperpla-sia, the endocervical polyp (EP) is a very common lesion, especially in multi-gravidae, and rare before menarche. It is usually asymptomatic but may occasionally cause intermittent or post-coital bleeding. It appears as a lobulated, polypoid growth projecting from the endocervical os. It is benign with no malignant potential, but cancer can occasionally arise in an EP. Most endocervical polyps are discovered during gynaecological examination.
