Influence of the Zinc Oxide Level in Rubber Compounds on the Amount of Zinc Leaching

Recently the reduction of the zinc oxide level in rubber compounds has become an important issue because of the harmful effect associated to soluble zinc compounds to aquatic organisms.According to the Council Directive 2003/ 105/EC,zinc oxide is classified as N "Dan-gerous for the Environment" R50/53 "Verytoxic to aquatic organisms,may cause longterm adverse effects in the aquatic en-vironment",S60 "This material and its con-tainer must be disposed of as hazardous waste" and S61 "Avoid release to the envir-onment" [1].
