Project focus: Viridor

摘要

The Lean Quarry landfill site near Liskeard in Cornwall opened for business in August last year. It has a capacity of 3 million/m~3 and also holds a Material Recycling Facility (MRF) and waste transfer station. Gaining planning permission back in 2002, it is the county's first new disposal site in 20 years. Its two existing landfill sites at United Mines and Conon Bridge are running out of space, although United Mines has recently re-opened having secured permission to extend. The site facilitates the restoration of a Tarmac Southern dolerite quarry and over time will create new woodlands and meadows under the agreed long-term restoration plan.
