Altered morphogenesis of placental tissues of tobaccoin vitro: Stigmatoid and carpelloid outgrowths

When placental tissue of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacumL.) was cultured on liquid medium with 4 sucrose but with no hormones, many ovules, instead of maturing normally, grew as elongate, style-like structures with terminal stigmas. A limited number of these formed a proximal swelling with ovules. The significance of these results is discussed briefly.
