Origin of Gel Films Naturally Rising in Water from Air-Dry Soils

The origin of the gel films which naturally rise to the waterstirface upon the moistening of air-dry soils is discussed. The structure of these soils and gel films, the separation of the films during the soil's interaction with water, and the changesin the separated gel films on the water surface are studied. It is shown that the gel films are formed as a result of layering of soil gels during drying and the separation of their layers begins upon the interaction of air-dry soils with water. It is revealed that there are gels of several types in soil with different mechanisms of the retention of heavy metals. The gels which are separated from the soil particles and rise to the water surface are analogs of the gels of the first group specified by A.F. Tyulin. They determine the water resistance of the soil structure and contain the bulk of the nutrients in the soil, which makes their study an important priority.
