Since Modern Plastics last surveyed the market for laser-scanning and charge-coupled device(CCD)camera inspection systems(October 2001 MP p.32;MPI p.40),market acceptance has been limited to processors who are under pressure to supply "no defect" film and sheet,often regulated by Good Manufacturing Practices.Such applications include coating,lamination,pharmaceutical packaging,technical films for the electronics industry,and protective films where gels or specks could result in scratches when removed from items such as door panels,polycarbonate or acrylic windows,or display sheets,says Tim Miller,sales manager measuring and inspection technology at Erhardt + Leimer.
