TPV bonds to metal,becomes tie layer for coextruded weatherseal

A new grade of thermoplastic vulcan-izate(TPV)has been launched that allows direct bonding to metal,simplifying weatherseal fabrication.Santoprene TPV 8291-85TL is suitable for automotive weatherseal applications where metal and TPV are joined in a coextru-sion process,with the new material used as a tie layer between a TPV and the metal portions of a weatherseal,creating a chemical bond with the metal that eliminates solvent-based primer and adhesive systems and the volatile organic compounds(VOCs)they can generate.
