As expected, the Quebec government has confirmed it will follow in the footsteps of its Ontario counterpart - cutting the price of generic drugs to 25% of brand-name equivalents.Quebec regulations require that it pay the lowest generic drug prices available in Canada. The province, however, has to date not announced the kinds of offset measures that cushioned the impact of the Ontario price reductions on generic drug manufacturers and, to some degree, pharmacists. This has the generic companies warning that Quebec's policy threatens to harm their industry, as well as diminish access to affordable drugs in the province.
