The generation of static charges on the non-conductive surfaces of polymers has long been recognized as a problem due to the variety of negative effects they cause. The effects range from the nuisance level, such as the attraction of dust and dirt to surfaces with degradation of appearance, through manufacturing and use problems arising from either attraction and sticking or repulsion and separation of surfaces or fibers,to the dramatic and highly undesirable effects of starting fires and the destruction of electronic devices by means of discharges. Many of these effects can be alleviated by the traditional antistatic agents.
