PresentstudywasaimedatunderstandingthesocioeconomicconditionsandadoptionofsheepmanagementpracticesinChittoordistrictofAndhraPradesh,Indiaasitservesasabenchmarknbsp;forevolvingmeaningfulextensionstrategiesandotherpolicyinterventions.nbsp;ThescenarioinChittoordistrictrevealedthatsheepproductionisinthehandsoftraditionalfarmers;rearingunderextensivesystemofmanagement.Mostofthefarmershadpoorsocio-economicbackgroundwithilliteracy.MajorityisrearingthenativeNelloreJodpi#8211;ahairycoatedleggybreedwithsmallflocksizesrangingfrom25to50heads.Nonadoptionoframrotation,periodiccullingofunproductiveewes,flushing,supplementaryfeedingofpregnantandlactatingewesandweaningindicatedtheverylowlevelofadoptionofmanagementpractices.ImmunizationforendemicdiseasesisfollowedatthebehestofAnimalHusbandrydepartment.Healthcaremeasuresarefollowedtothemoderateextentonly.nbsp;Becauseofsignificantinfluenceofthestockists,thefarmersaredependingonthemforselectionofsuitabledewormingagentsratherthanaveterinarianleadingtoexploitation.nbsp;Cooperativesectorisdefunct,whichresultedinexploitationbythemiddlemeninthemarketing.
