Thermoformers are playing catchup with injection molders when it comes to off-shoring, finally doing so essentially for the same reasons. But are they too late? Wim De Vos, CEO for Vitalo Group, a multinational thermoforming company based in Belgium, kicked off the annual SPE Thermoforming Conference in Milwaukee in September with a look at globalization as it pertains to the thermoforming industry. Many in that industry had believed they would be spared the fate of custom injection molders that saw their business moving offshore, but in fact optimized logistics chains have made even global shipping of some large thermoformed parts economically feasible. De Vos and Vitalo Group were forced to respond.
