Carrying out thinwall molding on a specially designed injection machine is the normal approach to this demanding processing technique. However, the capital expense may deter processors from becoming involved in thinwall molding. This study demonstrates that a conventional injection molding machine is capable of producing good, quality thinwall moldings if the melt temperature, cooling rate, injection speed, and mold surface temperature are properly controlled. The study develops strategies for achieving thinwall molding while using a standard unmodified machine. Both PC and ABS were molded at varying melt temperatures and mold temperatures.
