Asahi and GE Plastics conflict on PC patents

Asahi Chemical Industry Co, Tokyo, Japan, said it would file a patent infringement suit in Spanish courts early in 1999 against GE Plastics, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA. The suit alleges infringement of Asahi's patented melt-phase polycarbonate manufacturing technology. GE Plastics' 130 000 tonne/year melt-phase PC plant in Cartegena is scheduled to start producing commercial quantities in February.
