As of today,China faces a 30-gigawatt (GW) shortfall between energy capacity and USage.Running primarily coal-fired plants,fossil fuels acount for 74% of the country's 400 GW of electricity output (the U.S.has 900 GW total),according to Jeff Logan,China program manager for the International Energy Agency (IEA,Paris).Logan says the gap is currently filled by planned indUStry shutdowns,cutting power to many plastics processors and manufacturers three or four days a week.
