Processor Is On Track With HDPE Rail Ties

U.S. rail systems are starting to install sizeable numbers of crossties, or sleepers, made of recycled high-density polyethylene. These ties seem poised to capture a good portion of a market dominated by wood (see story on p. 42), and a fair bit of the credit must go to Henry Sullivan, president of Houston, TX-based TieTek Inc., an early champion of plastic ties. It is perhaps fitting that Sullivan has followed an unusual track in becoming a pioneering producer of the ties.
