Rival next-generation DVD formats hit market

Recordable next-generation discs in the rival formats are also making their market debuts.And despite llth-hour efforts to come to a compromise on a unified standard,it is now certain that both formats will coexist in the market and,according to Akihiro Joko,VP of Tokyo-based IT consultancy Techno Systems Research (TSR),this could have an adverse effect on demand prospects if consumers delay purchases and wait to see whether one format will emerge a winner (see November 2004 MP for more details of the two formats).
