Axminster Tools and Machinery have an excellent reputation for supplying quality products and so when asked to review some of their machinery I was naturally more than willing; not least because I had the chance to visit their impressive headquarters in beautiful Devon. The SC4 Bench Lathe and SX3 Mill Drill were chosen as they are machines of a complimentary size and are also used in the Axminster Skill Centre for engineering courses. The machines are part of the Axminster Engineer series, which is aimed at both Model Engineers and also small component manufacturers. During the following review all opinions expressed are my own based on my experience of using the machines. It is also worth mentioning that this review is not a 'straight from the box' review as the machines are in use by a highly experienced instructor. This means that we must assume that the machines have been adjusted and so illustrate their potential and not, perhaps, the 'as delivered' condition.
