The SmartBarrel system from Glycon Corp.is an inexpensive way for processors to monitor screw and barrel wear without the lengthy downtime needed to remove the screw and take measurements conventionally.A digital indicator is inserted through small ports in an injection-unit or extruder and takes measurements of screw-flight dimensions in a matter of a few minutes while the machine remains at near-processing temperature.
