The project shown in the photo was one of a number of varied door chimes that were built twenty years ago. Although it can only be heard and not seen by callers when the front door is closed, it has periodically attracted favourable comments about its sound and novelty value; first-time visitors may even ask to start it up again to see it working. I hope, therefore, that some of Model Engineer's readers may also like to build a similar mechanical project to greet their own guests.
