摘要

Originally applied by Darwin to living things, it is also relevant to machines. Ralph Oliver offers a philosophical comparison with the animal kingdom. For animals, food supply is the most important factor in survival, followed by the effects of predation, genetic variation and climate change. Machines must do their job well, be cheap to make and use as little energy as possible.
