Any readers who have followed my various discussions in Model Engineers' Workshop where I sometimes recall experiences of my chequered career in mechanical engineering, may recall that on several occasions I've mentioned the shaping machine and that for about eighteen months of my apprenticeship - and for a while afterwards - I worked a large industrial version in a mould making tool room. This was where I learnt exactly how versatile this particular machine tool could actually be.
