The wliole sequence (15,057 bp) of the mitochoncJrial DNA (mtDNA) of the terrestrial snail Achatina fulica (order Stylommatophora) was cietermined. The mitogenome, as the typical metazoan mtDNA, contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCG), 2 ribosomal RNAgenes (rRNA) and 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNA). The tRNA genes include two trnS without standard secondary structure. Interestingly, among the known mitogenomes of Pulmonata species, we firstly characterized an unassigned lengthy sequence (551 bp) betweenthe coxi and the trnV which may be the CR for the sake of its AT bases usage bias (65.70%) and potential hairpin structure.
