Apache Discovery Confrms Substantial Offshore Potential

BMI View: Kenya has well and truly entered the East African oil and gas race after Apache Energy made a landmark offshore discovery in the Lamu basin. While the fnd proved to be gas rather than liquids-rich, it points to a working hydrocarbons system with substantial reserves potential. A great deal more exploration and appraisal work will clearly need to be undertaken but there is a good chance Kenya may join neighbours Tanzania and Mozambique as a major hydrocarbons producer by the end of the decade.
